The history of Winkhaus

1939 to 1945

In the years between 1939 and 1945, like many other producing companies in Germany, Winkhaus is forced to change direction. Growth is put on hold, as it had been once before during the time of the First World War. Aug. Winkhaus mainly produces cartridges for rifles and pistols. Again and again increases in production are required, which can only be delivered by expanding operations still further. The longer the war lasts, the wider the gulf becomes between the interests of business and those of the State. For Aug. Winkhaus too, the constraints of the war become increasingly difficult to deal with.
