The history of Winkhaus

The 1920s

Extensive building work gives sales in Germany a boost at the start of the 1920s. As before the war, production facilities are working at full capacity. Following the company’s change in status to a limited partnership, Rudolf Winkhaus' youngest son Erich joins the workforce as an engineer.

After the period of disruption due primarily to the war, work to modernise production sequences continues apace. Modern machines and efficient production sequences, combined with consistent quality, once again prove to be a recipe for success. By the end of the decade, Winkhaus has almost 300 employees.

1922
The company changes its status to become a limited partnership. Rudolf Winkhaus continues to manage the company as the personally liable partner.

1923
Having completed his studies at the universities of Aachen and Berlin-Charlottenburg and worked as a graduate engineer in the USA, Erich Winkhaus, the second son of Rudolf Winkhaus, takes over the technical management of the company.

1929
Once again, production is at full capacity. Winkhaus employs almost 300 workers and has to expand further in order to increase sales. However, there is no room for further expansion at the site on the Bohlweg in Münster. Winkhaus negotiates the purchase of a new plot of land from the authorities in Münster.
