The multi-point locking system for smoke and fire protection

Doors are common points at which fires can spread to other parts of buildings. They must therefore remain closed permanently and reliably in case of emergency to stop fire and smoke in their tracks and gain valuable time for the rescue services to reach anyone trapped.

Protection has priority

When it comes to fire protection, the primary concern is safety. This is also indicated by the changes to general social conditions, the subject of safety taking on more and more importance, both publicly and privately. In any fire, human lives are at stake. But at the same time, goods should be protected and the fire checked as well. Doors are common points at which fires can spread to other parts of buildings. This is why when doors serve as a central point of access or means of separating a room, you have to make sure that they remain closed firmly and reliably should the worst happen. Because they can stop fire and smoke in their tracks and gain valuable seconds for the rescue services to reach anyone trapped. In such cases, multi-point locking systems have a very important part to play.

Legal basis

In the case of fire and smoke protection doors, all fitting components and accessory parts must be tested for their suitability and persistent functionality. Proof of suitability is prescribed for fittings used in fire and smoke protection doors, as well as accessories. Proof of compliance is demonstrated by means of a general construction inspection test certificate, corresponding to Construction Rules List A part 2, seq. no. 2.11, for each item manufactured, with a certificate of compliance issued by a recognised accreditation body. A precise definition of product suitability is laid down in the "General construction inspection test certificate". Each construction product used for fire and smoke protection doors therefore has to display its suitability by means of the compliance symbol ("Ü" symbol), CE symbol or a general construction inspection test certificate. Multi-point locking systems are subject to the requirements of DIN 4102-18: 1991-03, internal plant production inspections and certified by means of the "Ü" symbol.
