For more than 130 years, SchafbergBahn has been transporting its passengers safely to the 1,738-metre-high Schafberg – and with about 900,000 passengers per year, it is one of the most important transport operators in the Salzkammergut region. In order to meet the increasing requirements for security and efficiency, SchafbergBahn chose the blueSmart electronic locking system from Winkhaus in 2021.

As part of the new construction of the EQ Experience Quarter, the historic SchafbergBahn station was comprehensively modernised. The new architecture combines tradition and modernity, creating a place that is visually impressive and at the same time meets the highest functional demands. When choosing the locking technology, it was crucial that the system blends discreetly into the design while ensuring the security and flexibility that are essential for a complex operation like the SchafbergBahn.

Tailored security with Winkhaus blueSmart

The blueSmart electronic locking system impressed SchafbergBahn with its flexibility, user-friendliness and robustness. It enables access authorisations to be defined individually for each employee and immediately reprogrammed if an identification medium is lost without having to convert the entire system. This saves time and costs and significantly increases operational reliability.

It was also crucial that the system is able to resist extreme weather conditions. On the Schafberg mountain, temperatures drop to as low as -20 degrees in winter – a challenge that blueSmart can withstand. The robust components ensure that both the offices and the technical facilities are securely and reliably protected.

With blueSmart, SchafbergBahn was not only able to significantly increase its safety standards, but also to minimise administrative effort. Changes to access rights can be made centrally via the blueControl software – quickly, easily and flexibly.
