Winkhaus blueEvo supports Volkswagen Immobilien in the digitalisation of access management

Electronic locking system simplifies administration

Winkhaus is modernising the Forum-AutoVision building complex’s access control system on behalf of Volkswagen Immobilien GmbH in Wolfsburg. After using the blueChip electronic locking system for more than 20 years, the company is introducing the new blueEvo product generation. This means that complex authorisation structures can be managed even more efficiently in the future.

The modernisation largely took place without affecting the existing infrastructure. The flush-mounted design of the electronic cylinders meant that no structural alterations to the doors were necessary. Only the newly installed Virtual Network Hubs needed to be cabled. The first phase of the project involved the installation of 182 electronic cylinders and eleven upload readers. “The transition went smoothly and required very little effort on our part,” commented Johannes Sichelschmidt, Property Manager at Volkswagen Immobilien. “The entire changeover was carried out without interrupting normal operations and without inconveniencing our tenants.”

Access rights can be flexibly adapted
With blueEvo, authorisation groups can be created virtually and changed as required. User keys can be updated via the Virtual Network Hubs. This enables Volkswagen Immobilien to react more quickly to personnel or organisational changes. Client control offers further options: It allows larger tenants to independently manage their employees’ access rights. This decentralises administrative tasks and relieves the burden on property management.

Modernisation has especially streamlined Volkswagen Immobilien's daily processes. Access rights can be easily adapted and different user groups can be flexibly organised. “The introduction of the new locking system and the associated software has greatly simplified our administration,” explains Sichelschmidt. “Thanks to blueEvo, we can react quickly to changes and are therefore very well positioned for the digital future.”

Additional areas can be added progressively
Once the first phase of installation is complete, it will be possible to gradually migrate further areas to blueEvo. This will enable Volkswagen Immobilien to progressively continue the digitalisation of access control within the building complex.

The project in Wolfsburg illustrates a typical challenge in the management of large commercial and office properties: With different tenants, changing users and complex structures, access rights must be adjusted regularly. Digital management of authorisations reduces administrative effort. Furthermore, the Forum AutoVision’s existing building infrastructure was largely retained, and the conversion was carried out whilst the facility remained in operation.
