Customised window solution for office districts

Südkreuz Offices, Berlin

Südkreuz Offices, an office and retail complex covering an area of around 25,000 m², is located in the immediate vicinity of Südkreuz station in Berlin-Schöneberg. A specially designed window solution was implemented to meet challenging architectural requirements. The secure version of the large-format, openable window units features a tailor-made Winkhaus fitting solution.

Security and functionality for large-format windows

A key feature of the site is its 10,000 m² window façade, consisting of over 900 large-format elements. The windows present a particular challenge in terms of fall protection because of their size and weight, and the opening mechanism. As there are no generally applicable standards for windows of this size, a project-specific solution was required.

In collaboration with its partners Aluprof and Eljako-Al, Winkhaus developed a custom-tested fitting solution based on the aluPilot Topstar system that meets all security and functional requirements.

Tried and tested solution for specific requirements

Openable window units of this type are considered special constructions under building law and require a project-specific safety certificate. The implemented solution was thoroughly tested and validated through a project-specific type approval granted by the DIBt in Berlin. The implementation went according to plan and was able to be completed in 2022.
